Protest is over school closure proposal

HOUSTON - Parents protested outside the home of Houston Independent School District Superintendent Terry Grier Sunday afternoon in hopes to stop the proposal which would close five of the district's schools

The group was led by community activist Quanell X as they chanted and gathered in front of Grier's home.

The HISD schools involved are Jesse Jones High School, Fleming Middle School, Dodson Elementary, Henderson Elementary and Port Houston Elementary.

Grier has argued that low student enrollment and changing demographics make the closures necessary.
