SPRING – One week after a Spring High School teenager stabbed and killed a fellow and student and injured three others, security surrounding the campus remains high.
On Wednesday, school officials held the first of six parent information sessions to discuss safety and security.
As many as 75 moms and dads met with the principal, the district's police chief, and other administrators to discuss their concerns regarding safety.
Wednesday also marked the first day parents were allowed to transfer their students out of the school. Some parents said they have had other issues with the Spring High and the stabbing on campus was the final straw.
Since students have been allowed back to class, attendance has been lower than normal. According to a Spring ISD spokesperson, only 60 percent of students were attended classes on Monday. That number climbed to 85 percent on Tuesday. The attendance number may continue to stay below average.
Parents said in addition to their concerns about safety, they worry about racial tension and gang activity on campus.
One mother told Local 2 she was fifteenth in line to transfer her child out of the school. She said there were at least a dozen people after her waiting to fill out the same paperwork.
