Pair accused of shoplifting with babies in tow

PEARLAND, Texas – Two women were taken into custody Wednesday after shoplifting at an Pearland store, police said.

The incident was reported about 4:20 p.m. at the Academy store in the 2800 block of Business Center Drive.

According to Pearland police, a caller reported that two women who were carrying two babies tried to leave the store with a large bag and stroller filled merchandise.

When a store employee confronted the women they abandoned their stroller, jumped into a gold SUV and drove away. The two women led police on a short chase until they stopped in the 2100 block of Kirby Drive.

The two suspects were taken into custody, police said.

The suspects, identified as Brooke Nicole Jones, 22, and Darneshia Lanea Collins, 23, both of Houston, were charged with theft-shoplifting.

Jones was also charged with evading in a motor vehicle and two accounts of endangering a child by act.

The children were not hurt and were released to family members.
