Woman, 66, airlifted to hospital after attack by dog in Rosharon

ROSHARON, Texas – A 66-year-old woman was airlifted to the hospital Friday morning after being attacked by a d in Rosharon.

The attack happened around 9 a.m. in the 13000 block of CR 748.

Family members said Shirley Sanders was walking down the street, just as she has daily for about 20 years, when two dogs came up to her. One of the dogs attacked the woman, biting her on her face, arms and legs.

A man who was on his way to feed his horses saw Sanders. She could barely walk. The man took Sanders to her home, where her family called 911.

"She was in real bad shape. Luckily someone came along. They were able to help. That's the main thing. Get her back to the house and call the ambulance, because the dog had gashed her real bad," rescuer Zachary Petitt said.

Sanders was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Family members said she remained in the hospital Friday afternoon.

"She was getting weak and lost a lot of blood, so she wasn't talking too much," her brother, James English, said.

Brazoria County sheriff's deputies found one dog, but do not believe he was the attacker.

Deputies are still looking for a red and white dog.
