Worker shot during robbery in Angleton; 2 men in custody

ANGLETON, TexasTwo people are in custody after a worker was shot during a robbery at a grocery store in Angleton Friday morning.

According to Angleton police, officers were dispatched to a shooting call at the General Teran Meat Market near S. Anderson and Munson around 6:15 a.m.  

Isidro Antonio Vargas Montiel, 31, who works at the market, was shot in the abdomen with a semi-automatic handgun while he was delivering bread to the location from the store's second location. He was taken by medical helicopter to a trauma unit. He is recovering from a gunshot wound. 

Store owner Jacob Delagarza said his employees had opened the store for the morning crowd when two men dressed in all black entered the business and ordered breakfast tacos. He said the men waited for the other customers to leave before drawing a weapon and demanding money from the cashier. The cashier complied.

One man shot Montiel, and then both men fled the store with hundreds of dollars in cash.

"Once they took the money the other guy screamed and yelled so they walked through the back door, and that is where my employee was over here, he shot him and he left," says Jacob De La Garza/ store owner.

Montiel was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he underwent surgery.The gunmen took off running through a nearby neighborhood.

"Jumped through the screen, came through that yard, through my yard, and cut across there, and took off running," a witness said.

The witness came face-to-face with one of the suspects.

"I thought he had a weapon on him, I told him no get away from me," the witness said.

Officers eventually found them and took them into custody.

Justin Diorvonte Lewo Bonner, 19, was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated robbery. He's being held in the Brazoria County Jail.

A juvenile was also arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated robbery.
