HOUSTON – Police are looking for the people who beat and shot a man to death in northwest Houston.

Police said 36-year-old Victor Saavedra went to his car that was parked outside his home in the 7000 block of Cole Creek Drive just before 9:15 p.m. Monday. That’s when at least two to three people attacked him, police said.

According to officials, when Saavedra tried to run from his attackers, they chased him down and shot him.

Investigators are looking for a gray Infiniti G-35 witnesses said they saw at the scene.

It is unclear why the father of three was attacked. Most residence said Saavedra lived in a fairly quiet, safe neighborhood. Officers are checking for surveillance video from neighbors for clues.

"(There was) lots of gunshots, lots of police. It was pretty scary," neighbor Christina Armstrong said.

Neighbors said the moment they heard the gunshots, they ran for cover.

"It's very disturbing. It's very scary," neighbor Stephen Casanover said. "My wife won't even come outside."

Alice Gonzalez said her dog started acting wildly, so she flung her front door open. That's when she immediately heard gunshots.

"I have children, and they're teenagers," Gonzalez said. "Sometimes my son goes running, so he could have been out there, you never know, in the line of fire."
