HOUSTON -

A man is dead and four other people are in the hospital after a wrong-way crash in northwest Harris County.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, an elderly man was driving a Toyota Camry at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday  when he somehow got onto Highway 290 going in the wrong direction.

Officials say the man was driving inbound in the outbound lanes.

The driver then collided head-on with a Jeep Liberty carrying four Texas A&M students.

Officials say the elderly driver died at the scene.

The four college students were all taken to a local hospital in stable condition. 

There were two men and two women in their early 20s in the Jeep.
