One injured in asphalt plant fire in Missouri City

HOUSTON – Firefighters battled a massive blaze at an asphalt manufacturing plant in Missouri City.

The Missouri City Police Department said it received calls shortly after 4:30 p.m. Thursday about an explosion at the American Materials asphalt manufacturing plant at 2122 Highway 90A.

One person suffered burn injuries and was transported to the hospital via LifeFlight. There is no word on the individual's condition.

The Houston Fire Department and the Stafford Fire Department confirmed they were called in to assist the Missouri City Fire Department to battle the blaze. Multiple explosions could be seen from Sky 2 while the fire burned.

Firefighters sprayed foam on the fire and eventually got it under control about an hour later.

Motorists may expect travel delays in the area.
