HOUSTON -

One person is dead after a two-vehicle accident on the Katy Freeway.

The wreck occurred around 9 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 10 westbound near Barker Cypress.

Police said a Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling west on the Katy Freeway when he lost control of his SUV and hit a Chevrolet Impala.

Houston police said the front passenger of the Impala, a 59-year-old man, died at the scene.

LifeFlight also transported the driver of the Impala, a 21-year-old man, to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition, according to police.

The Katy Freeway was completely closed as crews investigated the scene and removed debris from the freeway. All lanes reopened around 12:10 p.m.

Police said the driver of the SUV did not show any signs of impairment and was not injured.

No charges have been filed at this time.
