HOUSTON -

A man is dead after a crashing into two fences near an Houston ISD high school.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. Monday in the 400 block of Mercury just outside Furr High School.

Police say the victim was lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a fence at the high school.

As school staff approached the driver, police say he drove away.

An HISD police officer followed the man on foot as he drove off.

Officials say the man drove toward Herman Brown Park, where he crashed through another fence and hit several trees before coming to a stop.

The 48-year-old man died at the scene.

The victim's name was not immediately released.
