1914: Actress Hedy Lamarr, a major contract star of MGM's "Golden Age," is born under the birth name Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler in Vienna, Austria-Hungary. Some of her best-known movies include "Algiers," "Comrade X," "Boom Town," "White Cargo," "Ziegfeld Girl" and "Samson and Delilah." She died atnage 85 on Jan. 19, 2000, from heart failure, chronic valvular heart disease and arteriosclerotic heart disease.
