HOUSTON -

Olympic gold medalist Scott Hamilton was in Houston to raise awareness about pituitary disease.

Hamilton is known for his athletic prowess on the ice, so when he began feeling depressed and sluggish, he knew something was seriously wrong.

After successful treatment, he's now teaming up with Houston Medical Center.

On Tuesday, Hamilton was as a guest speaker for the Pituitary Center at Baylor College of Medicine.

“It's really hard to find good care around the country that's specific to pituitary disease and  you've got one right here in Houston, and it's very exciting and I’m just here to share my experiences,” said Hamilton.

Doctors say a pituitary tumor can cause the pituitary gland to produce too much or too few hormones, causing symptoms like headaches, nausea or unexplained weight loss.

The BCM Pituitary Center offers patients a team of specialists dedicated to diagnosing and treating such diseases.
