HOUSTON – A third-grader is in the hospital after, officials said, he collapsed during gym class.
Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District officials said the incident happened Monday at LaFaye Johnson Lee Elementary School.
School officials said the boy was running during P.E. class Monday morning when something suddenly went wrong with his heart and he collapsed.
A defibrillator had to be used on the boy, district officials said, and a P.E. teacher and a nurse also gave the boy CPR until an ambulance arrived.
District officials said the boy had did not have a history of any medical condition, and certainly none that would have predicted what happened.
The boy was rushed to Texas Children's Hospital. His condition has not been released, but officials said he was breathing.
The cause of the student's collapse is under investigation.
