SPRING, Texas – Authorities say 100 acres of grass caught fire in north Harris County on Friday night.
The Spring Volunteer Fire Department said the blaze began around 6 pm Friday in a wooded area near the 24500 block of Birnam Wood Boulevard.
Upon arrival, fire crews say they found a fire in the woods that was quickly spreading because of increased winds and dry conditions.
"The Spring Fire Department called for assistance from multiple fire departments and the Texas A&M Forest Service," said Lt. Dean Hensley with the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office. "It took about six hours to bring the fire under control."
Local 2's Robert Arnold reported about 100 firefighters were on the scene, including some from Texas Forest Service.
No injuries were reported and no homes or structures were ever in danger because of the fire.
Authorities say fire crews stayed on scene throughout the night to monitor for possible hot spots.
