Officials find over $7M in marijuana plants on Walker County property

Authorities searching for Hispanic man in connection to incident

WALKER COUNTY, Texas – Officials located more than 5,000 marijuana plants on a property in Walker County on Friday and are now searching for a man who ran as they arrived at the scene of the grow spot.

The Walker County Sheriff's Office said deputies and narcotics investigators responded to a call from a man who was working on his employer's property when he found what appeared to be marijuana plants.

Deputies said after being given permission to enter the property, they located the plants and then spotted a Hispanic man walking toward them. They reported that as soon as they identified themselves, the man ran into a nearby heavily wooded area.

Deputies said as they and additional units searched for the man, they located 5,255 marijuana plants, with an estimated value of $7,866,000. In addition, a current living shelter space was found, but the man was not.

The man who fled is described as being 6 feet 2 inches tall with black hair and possibly in his late 20s or early 30s. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a light-colored T-shirt.
