HOUSTON – On May 27, FedEx driver Nicole Huff told police she was making deliveries on her regular route when she was carjacked, abducted at knifepoint, then forced to drive around for 45 minutes before the suspect kicked her out and stole her truck.
Now nearly two weeks after the reported attack, she's the one being investigated by police and facing criminal charges, accused of making the whole story up.
According to court documents, there was more than $20,000 worth of merchandise in the stolen truck, including Nike Air Jordan's that weren't available to the public until June.
Huff's initial story began to unravel when police arrested her boyfriend on a Crime Stoppers tip and he started talking to investigators.
Huff's boyfriend allegedly told police that she staged the robbery and asked him to drive the stolen truck. According to court papers, Huff's boyfriend admitted to selling the stolen shoes for $325 a pair.
The stolen FedEx delivery truck was found parked across the street from the apartment complex, along with more than 50 boxes of stolen shoes worth $15,000.
Police arrested Huff at her apartment at around noon Monday.
FedEx Ground released a statement which read, "FedEx Ground continues to cooperate fully with the authorities, but we have no other information to share regarding this ongoing investigation."
