Officials: Drunk driver kills 2 after fender bender

HOUSTON – Two people involved in a fender-bender accident were killed on the side of a road after a suspected drunk driver in a truck slammed into them, police said.

According to investigators, a Ford Explorer rear-ended a Chevy Silverado on Highway 290 near 34th Street at about 2 a.m. Saturday.

Officials said the driver of the Silverado, along with the 64-year-old passenger, exited their vehicle to exchange information with the driver of the Explorer. At some point, investigators said the driver of the Silverado suspected the driver who'd run into him was intoxicated.

The driver of the Silverado went back to his truck to call police, leaving his passenger and the driver of the Explorer outside. That's when, officials said, a Lincoln Navigator slammed into the Explorer and the Silverado, killing both the driver of the Explorer and the passenger of the Silverado.

When police arrived, they said the driver of the Navigator showed signs of intoxication, so they took him into custody. He now faces intoxication manslaughter charges.
