Restaurant Report Card: Inspectors find roach droppings

HOUSTON – Several popular restaurants were trying to clean up their acts this week.

Health inspectors found roaches crawling in the kitchen at the Le Lai Chinese Restaurant at 9600 Bellaire. The restaurant has to put a stop to the infestation, according to the inspectors.

There were creepier critters to look out for at Marco's Mexican Bar and Grill at 8216 Kirby Drive.

Roaches and gnats were inside the kitchen, an infestation found near the food, and the gnats were taking over the bar and soda syrup in the kitchen, too.

It was tough week for the Fountainview Cafe at 1842 Fountainview Drive.

Health inspectors found mice droppings on the floor, then they caught a worker handling cooked bacon with bare hands.

Black slime was the issue inside the ice maker at Azuma Sushi Robata at 909 Texas.

Three hundred pounds of ice had to be thrown out, and workers have to clean out that ice machine.
Both food and ice had to be dumped into the garbage at Mai's Restaurant at 3401 Milam Street.

One thousand pounds of ice was thrown out, because it was covered in slime, and 280 pounds of meats were not safe to eat. They were tossed out, too.

Two good restaurants that made the A-list this week: Jake's Philly Steaks at 2949 Chimney Rock Road and Red Ribbon Bakeshop at 8001 Main Street.

Both had perfect inspections.
