Officers give tips to avoid spike in holiday crime

After a turbulent start to 2014, the National Retail Federation says it expects sales in November and December to increase by a healthy 4.1 percent to $616.9 billion, higher than 2013s 3.1 percent increase during that same time frame.

"Crime this time of year steps up -- a lot of property crimes, thefts and vehicle burglaries and stuff like that this time of year," said Capt. Wally Weighat.
