Officers fire shots during west Houston police chase

Man, woman arrested #houstonchase

HOUSTON – A driver led police on a chase through west Houston Friday that ended after a crash and shots being fired.

Officers said the chase started shortly after 9 a.m. in the 9500 block of Westheimer Road. It moved to Briar Forest, Memorial, Bunker Hill and Gessner, where speeds reached 80 mph on those streets, authorities said.

The truck got a flat tire, but kept moving. Two officers, one with Houston police and the other with Memorial Villages police, fired shots at the truck during the chase, investigators said.

Nathan Sprague said he got caught in the middle of the chase.

"I pull over to the side and get my flashers on, like you're supposed to do, and man, he came flying, literally, in the air," Sprague said. "When he came down, he jumped over and just clipped the side of me and just kept going."

The 11-mile chase ended on Tanner at Gessner about 20 minutes after it started. A man and woman were taken into custody.

Police did not say why the driver refused to stop when officers tried to pull him over.

The pickup truck may have been stolen, officials said. Items found in the pickup truck were stolen, investigators said.

No injuries were reported.
