HOUSTON -

A Houston police officer crashed into the suspect he was chasing early Tuesday morning in northwest Houston.

Officials said a Houston police officer assigned to traffic enforcement was on the Katy Freeway near 610 around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday.

"A blue Chevy Cobalt traveling at high rate of speed, up to 100 miles per hour, passed him up," said Sergeant Javier Tapia with the Houston Police Department.

Police said the chase didn't last long. It was cut short after the driver of the blue car lost control on the entrance ramp of 610 West and crashed into some plastic barrels. The police officer then crashed into the suspect's car.

The officer was not injured. The driver of the blue car was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

No word on any charges.
