Officer injured, 2 tasered after confrontations with police

Houston officers forced to use tasers in 2 different cases

HOUSTON – It was a violent start to the weekend for Houston police officers who had to deploy their tasers twice during two different confrontations with suspects.

The first incident happened around 10:30 p.m. Friday in the 7500 block of Long Point.

Officers were dispatched to a shooting call at the Summer Apartments and said one man took off running when they got to the scene. Two officers gave chase, eventually catching up to the man.

According to police, one officer deployed a taser because the suspect remained combative.

An officer was taken to the hospital with an injured leg suffered during the chase and struggle.

The second incident happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the 9300 of Kings Flower Circle when officers responded to a call of a suspicious man.

When officers arrived, the 20-year-old man was standing in the middle of the street yelling obscenities.

Police said a taser was used after the man approached the officers and started to strike them. They said the suspect was able to remove the taser darts, causing officers to deploy their taser again.

After being taken into custody, police said the man began having seizures and had to be taken to the hospital.
