HOUSTON -

According to the Houston Police Department, HPD Officer J. Johnson was walking with his girlfriend to see a movie around 12:10 Sunday morning.

As they were walking on the sidewalk, a silver Sedan pulled up next to them.

Johnson told police that he originally thought the suspects were going to ask for directions, but instead the passenger pulled out a gun and demanded their belongings.

Fearing for his and his girlfriend's life, Johnson pulled out his duty weapon and opened fire more than once, hitting the vehicle.

The vehicle sped off eastbound on Portsmouth.

A pistol believed to be involved in the shooting was found a few blocks away.

Soon after a silver sedan pulled into Memorial Hermann Southwest where the three suspects sought treatment for gunshot wounds.  They were taken into custody at the hospital.

Neither Johnson nor his girlfriend were injured during the incident.
