HOUSTON – The principal of a Houston elementary school has decided to cancel a gun safety program for students that was scheduled to take place Tuesday afternoon, just days before The National Rifle Association convention begins in Houston.

Peck Elementary School will not participate in a gun safety program for students that was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon because a district spokesperson said that the school's principal doesn't want to be "perceived as taking sides in the gun control debate." The elementary school's principal is Carletta Brown.
