Northern counties seeing rain, cold temps

HOUSTON – It's the calm before the storm on the campus of Sam Houston State University. Students hoping to get another snow day like they did on Friday got their wish. Classes at the university were cancelled on Tuesday.

The winter weather is fun for some but it means work for others. At the TxDOT office in Huntsville workers went home at 5:30 p.m. Monday to get some sleep. They were back at midnight to monitor any icy roads.

Trucks in the area are loaded with a crushed rock and sand mixture to help with traction. They're ready to go if conditions call for it.

KPRC's Idolina Peralez reported around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday that the rain falling in Huntsville was beginning to freeze on the ground.

TxDOT crews are paying particular attention to highways, bridges and overpasses. Use caution if you must drive.
