Victim says Mwon Taylor, 39, was Bible, science teacher at Miami Union Academy

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – A South Florida teacher was arrested this week for engaging in sex acts with a student, authorities said.

Police said the girl claimed that her former eighth and ninth-grade Bible and science teacher at Miami Union Academy, Mwon Vernard Taylor, 39,  acted inappropriately with her on several occasions before she began engaging in sex acts with him.

Detectives said the incidents were consensual in nature and that they happened between Aug. 1, 2011, and June 1, 2012.

According to the report, the victim claimed that Taylor exhibited strange behavior, including taking photographs of her feet.

She said there were about 20 inappropriate incidents, and about five involved sexual contact.

Detectives said the student performed oral sex on Taylor multiple times while she was a student, both in the classroom after school and in his car when he drove her home from school.

Police said Taylor also touched the girl's bare breasts and rubbed her genitals over her clothing.

Taylor was arrested Wednesday on charges of sexual battery on a minor and lewd and lascivious molestation on a child between the ages of 12 and 16.

The Seventh-day Adventists school currently lists Taylor as a sixth-grade homeroom teacher, who teaches social studies and religion.

"We are deeply saddened and regret to hear this news," Miami Union Academy Principal Renee Hodge said in a statement. "We do not condone inappropriate behaviors of any sort, and are very protective of our students. Be assured that the school's administration is in complete cooperation with the authorities and their investigation."
