HOUSTON -

A judge has ruled that a man accused of stabbing and killing a woman in Highlands will will be held without bond.

Ethan Drake appeared in court for the first time on Friday. He is charged with capital murder.

On Dec. 13, 2013, firefighters responded to a house fire in the 800 block of Clear Lake Road in Highlands with possible people trapped inside.

After the fire was extinguished, deputies say the remains of a woman were located inside the residence.

The victim was later identified as the homeowner, 72-year-old Caroline Suellen Stagner, who went by Sue. Stagner, a mother and grandmother, lived alone.

According to Harris County investigators, the motive for the killing was robbery.

Drake, 21, remains in the Harris County Jail.
