NFL Twitter account hacked, announces Goodell's death

Roger Goodell is alive and well

It's probably time for the NFL to change its Twitter password. The official Twitter account of the NFL was hacked Tuesday and announced that Commissioner Roger Goodell had died.

The fake tweet said: "We regret to inform our fans that our commissioner, Roger Goodell, has passed away. He was 57. #RIP."

The tweet was deleted after a few minutes, but the hacker posted another tweet that said, "Oi, I said Roger Goodell has died. Don't delete that tweet." A third tweet said, "OK, OK, you amateur detectives win. Good job."

The NFL quickly responded and confirmed that Goodell was alive and that the account was hacked.

It's not a surprise that the tweet went viral, with many people confused about what was going on and others having fun with the fake tweets.

"Upon further review, the ruling on the field is overturned. Roger Goodell is alive," Twitter user Angela Morabito wrote.

A spokesman told NBC Sports that the NFL is investigating.
