HOUSTON -

Deputies are now warning people about a jury duty scheme that could cost you hundreds of dollars.

Investigators said crooks are posing as Montgomery County court employees, calling unsuspecting victims and saying they have missed jury duty.

Officials said the thieves then threaten the people with jail time if they do not send money.

Deputies discourage sending money over the phone and said you can always verify with the court if you've missed jury duty.

If you have been a victim, your asked to call the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office at 936-760-5800.
