New outlet mall opens in Texas City

TEXAS CITY, Texas – Thousands of shoppers put on their walking shoes for a new outlet mall's grand opening on Friday.

The Tanger Outlet Center along the Gulf Freeway in Texas City features more than 80 stores.

"It's very nice," shopper Lisa Stiles said. "It's very crowded. I was amazed we got a parking space."

"We are bringing merchandise that is on-trend, in-season at a value price direct from the manufacturers," said Quentin Pell, the mall's public relations manager.

The mall has created nearly 900 jobs in the area.

Shoppers said they were excited to have so many stores in the area. Many said they won't have to drive to northwest Harris County or San Marcos anymore to get good deals.

"Now we can take an afternoon off an get our Christmas and holiday shopping done," said shopper Karen Hollon.

Prices at the outlet stores are generally 30 to 70 percent off department store prices.
