New funding may impact Houston's homeless

HOUSTONAccording the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, $355 million will be going toward new funding to end homelessness in Houston and across the United States.

Houston officials have been praised for their efforts to end the problem as homelessness has dropped significantly across the board over the past five years, reports say.

“Twenty-three communities in two states have ended veteran homelessness,” Secretary Julian Castro. “That includes the states of Connecticut and Virginia, (and) large cities like Houston and Philadelphia.”

Castro said he hopes this new funding will continue to help the city of Houston’s homeless population.
