HOUSTON – A new director of the public works department was named Wednesday by Mayor Annise Parker.
Dale A. Rudick, a professional engineer licensed in Texas, was announced as the director for the Houston Department of Public Works and Engineering. Rudick has been serving as a deputy director of PWE in charge of implementation and management of ReBuild Houston since 2011. Prior to that, he spent over 18 years working for the city of Sugar Land in various capacities including director of intergovernmental relations, city engineer, transportation/utilities director and transportation/traffic manager.

"Whether it's the water and sewer service we tend to take for granted, the ReBuild Houston program to improve our street and drainage system or the expansion of our hike and bike trails, the work done by PWE has a direct impact on the lives of Houstonians," said Parker. "I want a performance-driven operation that is responsive to the customers it serves. Dale brings the experience and clear understanding of my priorities needed to provide steady, strong leadership at PWE."
Rudick will replace Dan Krueger, who retired effective Sept. 2.
"One of our priorities is to build stronger communication ties with various stakeholders, community leaders and residents," said Rudick. "We will also strengthen relationships with other departments and agencies to help accelerate the implementation of the mayor's executive order related to ‘context sensitive design' for designated roads."
Rudick has been a resident of Houston since 1987. He a holds a civil engineering degree from the University of Houston and a degree in Business Administration from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
