SHEPHERD, Texas - A New Caney man is dead after his single engine plane crashed in a pasture near Shepherd, Texas on Sunday.

According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the experimental aircraft broke apart just after take-off from the Lake Water Wheel Airport.

It happened around 7 a.m. Sunday, according to the FAA.

Officials identified the pilot as 77-year-old James Goldsmith,of New Caney.

Investigators with the NTSB and FAA are now trying to figure out what caused that crash.
