All of the students who were on a New Caney ISD school bus that ended up on its side in a muddy ditch are expected to be OK.
The district said the driver glanced in the mirror to address what it called a "safety issue" and the bus slid into the ditch at about 4:20 p.m.
DPS troopers told Local 2 that students were acting up before the accident. Five of 26 students on board were taken to hospitals. The district said they had minor injuries.
A heavy-duty tow truck pulled the bus out of the ditch on East Martin Drive at Meadow Lane Wednesday night.
"The bus driver was trying to get a student to sit. I don't know what happened. We flipped over," Analelia Baltcar, a student on the bus told Local 2.
"The bus driver is fine. No injuries there. All of the parents responded beautifully. Came quickly to pick up their kids. Great community response," Amy Borel, of New Caney ISD, said.
The bus had just left the New Caney Sixth Grade Campus.
