Neighbors worry about recent crimes in The Heights

HOUSTON – There's been a recent rash in crime in The Heights area. Residents are trying to figure who's responsible for it and how to stop it.

It seems to be crooks are targeting homes throughout the entire neighborhood but focusing their efforts in locations with easy-in-easy-out access, like bike paths and roads.

Firoz Jhaver lives near a bike path near Heights Boulevard and was one of the most recent victims of crime.

Jhaver set up home security cameras recently. Those cameras recorded images of a man stealing Jhavaer's wife's bike.

Jahver said the thief "eventually hoped our fence, coming around and opening the garage door and taking the bike off onto the bike path."

According to the most recently published crime reports from the Houston Police Department, in November 2011 there were more than 25 home burglaries and more than 80 robberies in the Heights area.

Neighbors are hoping increased awareness and beefed up police patrols may help curb the problem.

Anyone with information regarding any crimes in the area is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
