HOUSTON – The Houston Police Department is asking for the public's help tracking down the person who shot a man to death outside a home in southeast Houston.

Police were called to the scene on Baker Street around 12:30 a.m. Saturday and found a body lying near the home's front door.

According to reports, neighbors initially found the victim while walking by the house and called 911.

"Neighbors were going out to go to the store [when] they looked across the street and saw their neighbor's front door open," said Sergeant Mark Holbrook with the Houston Police Department.  "When they looked a little closer, they saw their neighbor lying in the front yard, dead of an apparent gunshot wound."

There are no known witnesses to the shooting, and while police determined the victim lived at the home with his brother, officers said they have more questions than answers.

"It's a rental property, and no one really knows a lot about him," Sgt. Holbrook said. "At this time we're looking for anyone with information to give the Homicide Department a call."

The victim's identity was not immediately released.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
