People in the Katy community of the Estates of Highland Creek are living with a new level of fear after they say another one of their female neighbors was attacked and robbed.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office said it happened Wednesday evening in the subdivision near Fry Road and West Little York.
Neighbors told Local 2 the woman was attacked, pistol-whipped and robbed in front of her daughter as she was trying to check her mail. Neighbor John Fouquette says he saw the suspect flee the scene to a getaway car when the man slipped and fell on his face right in front of Fouqette's house.
"He was holding his hand up, even though he was on the ground," said Fouquette. "I heard some metal, 'clunk, clunk.' It was his gun he dropped."
This was the third robbery or robbery attempt against women in the subdivision in the last 30 days.
Griselda Hernandez said she was assaulted in her driveway just last week. She said she had just returned home around 10:30 p.m., when out of nowhere a man wearing a hoodie and a mask grabbed her.
"He ran and grabbed my face and tried to get my purse," said Hernandez. "But he didn't get anything."
The attacks have frustrated neighbors who are adding extra security measures.
"We're having security lights put up, the motion detectors," says Fouquette. "And we were getting in the process of having cameras put up."
