Neighbor: Murder suspect asked for help moving body

Adele Margaret Karczewski accused of killing John Sweeney

HOUSTON – Neighbors claim that a woman accused of killing her roommate asked them for help to get rid of the body.

Adele Margaret Karczewski, 53, has been charged with murder.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said Karczewski killed John Sweeney, her 60-year-old roommate, at the Timber Walk Apartments in the 5600 block of Timber Creek Place on Friday.

The woman who lives above Karczewski said Karczewski asked her boyfriend to help move Sweeney's body, which was wrapped in a blanket.

"She was like, "Shhhh … come here' and invited him in," said the neighbor, who did not want to be identified. "She's like, 'Yeah, just dump it. She tried to say he committed suicide. He would not kill himself. That's how we knew something was wrong."

The boyfriend ran back upstairs to his apartment and told his girlfriend what he saw.  The woman called deputies while her boyfriend went back downstairs.

"I was like, 'Keep her down there. Do not let her leave. The cops are on their way,'" the woman said.

As investigators arrived, the woman ran downstairs to see what was happening for herself.

"He was actually an ordained minister and he was legally blind," the woman said.

Deputies said Karczewski has admitted to fatally stabbing Sweeney in the neck with a kitchen knife after they got into an argument.

Karczewski is being held in the Harris County jail with bond set at $50,000 on the murder charge, however, she is being held without bond on a charge of driving with a suspended license.
