Nearly 275 pounds of marijuana found during traffic stop, police say

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – A 39-year-old woman was arrested Monday after authorities said she was caught with nearly 275 pounds of marijuana.

Perla Guzman of Zapata, Texas, was driving a truck inbound on U.S. 59 when a Richmond police officer pulled her over for a traffic stop, authorities said.

During the stop, the officer discovered 12½ tightly sealed bales of marijuana stored in a work chest in the bed of the truck, authorities said. The bales weighed 274½ pounds, which authorities said has an estimated value of $140,000.

Guzman is being held in the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office Jail on a $60,000 bond. She is facing a charge of possession of marijuana of more than 50 pounds and less than 2,000 pounds.
