HOUSTON -

Nearly 250,000 people attended the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest at Reliant Park over the weekend.

According to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s (HLSR) website, the three-day event kicked off Thursday night, setting a record with 40,502 people in attendance. In 2013, 38,829 people attended opening night.

Just over 83,000 people attended Friday night, compared to 86,042 last year, according to HLSR.

On Saturday, 125,766 people attended the final night of the cook-off, compared to the 139,261 people who attended the year before.

A total of 249,332 people attended the 2014 World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest, according to HLSR attendance figures. That’s compared to the 264,132 people who went to last year’s event which set records on Friday and Saturday.
