The larger load was found in a 1998 Volvo tractor trailer hauling a commercial shipment of aluminum scrap metal. According to agents, 95 packages containing 2,211 pounds of marijuana were hidden within the compressed aluminum.

“Our CBP officers working in cargo face a daunting task to find contraband hidden within the thousands of trucks that traverse our port each day,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry.

Later, CBP officers found 1,496 pounds of marijuana hidden inside a tractor trailer hauling a shipment of wooden studs. They estimate the total street value of the drug in both trucks to be around $740,000.

In both incidents, CBP officers seized the narcotics and referred the cases to Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation.
