Single mother turned away from father-daughter dance

Mom says she'll fight the school

LOCUST GROVE, Georgia – A Georgia mother is fighting a school policy that bars her from attending the annual father-daughter dance at her child’s school.

Amy Peterson says she wanted to attend for her 6-year-old daughter Gracie.

She said her daughter had been the subject of bullying because she doesn’t have a father.

Peterson donned a costume to look like a man.

She wore mascara as a beard, wore clothes larger than her regular size and even wore cologne.

But Peterson said the school’s principal called her and told her she was not allowed to attend.

The school told her she would be turned away if she tried to show up.

Peterson said she now plans to fight the rules to let either parent attend dances.
