HOUSTON - A fundraising drive for a bus monitor who was bullied by middle-school students is hundreds of thousands of dollars richer.
More than $703,873 was raised for Karen Klein on the fundraising website Indiegogo.com so that she could go on vacation.
The fundraiser started after a 10-minute cellphone video of Klein being taunted by kids went viral on the World Wide Web.
Donations poured in from all over the U.S. and about 80 other countries.
Klein will get 93 percent of the cash, which is more than $654,000. Four percent will go to the fundraising website and the remaining 3 percent for credit card processing fees.
The students who insulted her were suspended for a year and will have go to a bully prevention program.
