NASA honors woman who inspired movie 'Hidden Figures'

HOUSTON – NASA has honored one of the women whose life story inspired the movie "Hidden Figures."

The space association honored Katherine Johnson with a building bearing her name.

Johnson was the NASA mathematician who calculated the trajectory for America’s first trip to space with Alan Shepherd's 1961 mission.  

On Friday, the Katherine G. Johnson Computational Research Facility' officially opened in Hampton Virginia.

Although she is honored, she said she can't take all the credit.
Houston Independent School District also honored Johnson’s work on Friday. 

They are holding a special screening of "Hidden Figures" at Discovery Green at 8 p.m.
