Music teacher falls to death while changing tire

OAK RIDGE NORTH, Texas – A Spring music teacher fell to his death Thursday while he was trying to change a tire, police said.

Oak Ridge North police said Larry Asher, 63, fell off the Woodlands Parkway fly-by on Interstate 45 about 11:30 a.m.

"This is truly a freak accident," Police Chief Andrew Walters said.

Investigators said witnessed told them that Asher stopped at the top of the overpass to change a rear tire that had gone flat.

"Took his tire out of the trunk, set it up on the sidewall of the retaining wall of the fly-by and, for some reason, the tire fell," Walters said. "He grabbed for it, overextended himself and went over the side."

Police said Asher fell about 60 feet and landed on the shoulder of the southbound lanes.

Asher was a music teacher in Spring. He leaves behind a wife and two grown sons. He taught music for 30 years.
