Pasadena police say the threat of a divorce might have caused a man to shoot his wife and then turn the gun on himself, all while their 17-year-old daughter was inside.

Neighbors are shocked by the tragic scene that unfolded inside a family's home a few doors down.

"I have talked to the man several times. They kind of stuck to themselves, but they were good people," said neighbor Winston Brown.

He walked outside to get the newspaper Wednesday morning and saw the street lined with cop cars and helicopters buzzing above his house.

"I didn't hear the gunshots, just a lot of excitement with vehicles coming," Brown said.

Sky 2 was over the scene where Pasadena police say a husband shot and killed his wife and then took his own life.

Their 17-year-old daughter was asleep when she heard the gunshots.

"Went into the bedroom to investigate and found her parents," said Vance Mitchell, with the Pasadena Police Department.

Her mother was dead, but her father was still alive when she called the cops. He died a short time after officers arrived.

"This is a hard one to deal with because it is very tragic for the child and the entire family to have to go through this tragedy," said Mitchell.

Now investigators are working to find out exactly what could have lead to this.

"There is some speculation that the mother was going to file for divorce, and apparently he didn't want the divorce and apparently took this action," Mitchell said.

Police say the teen was not injured. Her brother, who doesn't live at the home, arrived a short while later and found out what happened.

Both the brother and sister left the house together while investigators processed the scene.

Pasadena police and officials with the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office are investigating.

Names of those involved were not immediately released.
