Senator Ted Cruz called for jury duty at Houston courthouse

HOUSTON – Senator Ted Cruz took a break from Washington Friday to fulfill his civic duty.

The congressman appeared in a Houston area courthouse for jury duty.  he was one of more than 100 potential jurors. The likely 2016 presidential candidate said he was glad to serve, though he doubted he would actually be placed on a jury.

"It would be a bit of a complication if I ended up in a six-week trial. That would be in some tension with getting back to Washington and doing my job representing Texans," Cruz told reporters. "But I think at the end of the day that'll work itself out."

Sen. Cruz said this was his first time ever being summoned to serve on a jury.
