HOUSTON -

Investigators say a man who caused a deadly accident was found lying face down in a yard.

Around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, investigators say the driver of a Dodge Charger was speeding down Highway 6 near Cherry Creek when he slammed into the back of a red pickup truck.

The pickup was pushed forward and directly into the path of an oncoming truck. Investigators say the two vehicles hit head on.

The driver of the red truck died at the scene, and officials say the driver of the second truck was rushed to the hospital in serious, but stable condition.

The driver's wife and 2-year old daughter were also in the truck, but investigators say they were not hurt.

Deputies say the driver who caused the accident took off on foot. Investigators say they found him lying face down in a yard in the Copperfield subdivision.

"I guess he laid down in the front yard of a residence and fell asleep," said Sergeant S. Wolverton with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "He was transported to the hospital due to his high level of intoxication."

Wolverton said the District Attorney's Office has accepted charges of intoxication manslaughter against the driver.
