The search is on for the gunman who opened fire, killing three people and critically injuring two others at an apartment complex in northwest Harris County.
It happened at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Peppermill Place apartment complex in the 8200 block of Sunbury near Eastern Commons.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the suspect shot the victims inside a first floor apartment, closed the door and fled, according to witnesses.
The Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department said three people were killed after suffering gunshot wounds to the head. Of the three dead, two were women and one was a man.
One was a 17-year-old boy, a 17-year-old girl and a 22-year-old woman.
The two injured victims -- a man in his 20s and an 18-year-old woman -- were transported via Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Texas Trauma Institute in critical condition.
The sheriff's office said all of the victims are Hispanic. Their names have not yet been released.
Sheriff Adrian Garcia indicated the scene inside the apartment was gruesome.
"Anytime you're shot with a pistol or handgun, I'd consider that an execution," Garcia said.
The motive for the shooting is still unclear, but detectives said there was no sign of forced entry. Some narcotics and weapons were found inside the apartment.
Deputies said a male suspect is at large, but there is no description available at this time.
Neighbors who live at the complex are questioning their own safety.
"They haven't arrested anybody, they don't know what he looks like; that's a concern. He could come back," said neighbor Salina Evans.
The medical examiner is performing autopsies on the bodies Thursday morning.
Anyone with information about the suspect or the shooting should call the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
