Multiple car break ins hit Medical Center area

Items left in view make vehicles easy target, HPD says

HOUSTON – Houston Police are investigating multiple car break-ins at AMLI at the Medical Center apartment complex.

Monica Lee lives at the AMLI at the Medical Center. She was walking her dog when she noticed several cars with windows smashed out in the parking lot.

"I've been seeing some people leave their GPS's out in their cars. Even where I park, I'm like, ‘you shouldn't leave that out."

Police said sometime between 7 p.m. Tuesday night and 7 a.m. Wednesday morning, thieves broke into cars and rummaged through to grab whatever they could take. At least seven cars were broken into, according to police.

HPD said leaving items like loose change in a cupholder, cell phone chargers and GPS devices in view can make you an easy target.

Although Lee wasn't a victim, she says the multiple break-ins are making her uncomfortable.

"We do pay a lot of money, we do have security guards," said Lee.

Anyone with information about the break ins should call Crimestoppers at (713) 222-TIPS.
